Warby Parker is searching for a Senior Data Modeler/Data Warehouse Architect to scale our analytics capabilities so that we can keep up with our employees’ insatiable hankering for data and serve our customers even better. In this role, you’ll act as the technical lead of our new, stakeholder-facing Business Intelligence team to build valuable data models that capture the core of our rapidly changing business. You’ll work toward bridging any gaps of understanding between departments that serve very different functions, yet could benefit from shared knowledge in their decision-making. Collaborating with your team’s Product Manager, as well as our Data Platform and Data Science teams, you’ll drive the development and implementation of data models (including automated tests) that are flexible, easy to maintain, and clearly documented. What you’ll do:

  • Assist in facilitating data modeling workshops with our Product Manager, Business Intelligence
  • Hire, mentor, and oversee Data Modeling and Business Intelligence Engineers
  • Collaboratively design data models that capture company-wide business processes and make them amenable to analysis
  • Work with a slew of stakeholders, including our CX, Supply Chain, Finance, Retail, and Social Innovation teams
  • Partner with our Product Manager, Business Intelligence to create a process for keeping the company-wide data model up to date with fast-changing technology and our evolving business objectives
  • Write transformation jobs to turn normalized data into star schema and dimensional models, consistent with the Kimball style of building a data warehouse
  • Work closely with our Data Platform team to prioritize what analysis should be loaded and which tools best serve our needs
  • Assist in writing, editing, and maintaining our data documentation
  • Work with our Data Platform and Data Science teams to determine a company-wide data strategy

Who you are:

  • Backed by 5+ years of experience designing and implementing data models, including 2+ years designing and implementing star schema and dimensional models
  • Highly detail-oriented and proactive—you’d be able to detect hidden sharp corners as we design our company-wide data model
  • Well-versed in SQL
  • An enthusiastic team player who can work with non-technical stakeholders to collaboratively design data models
  • An excellent communicator with experience writing in a nuanced way about technical topics
  • Comfortable working in an Agile environment and delivering incremental results on a regular basis (instead of in months-long design processes)
  • Accustomed to collaborating with software engineers in a modern workflow (for version control, code review, testing, etc.)

  • How we operate a stakeholder-driven business and how we serve the needs of our customers, employees, community, and environment as we scale
  • A lot (or a lot more) about bringing dimensional modeling, data warehousing, data engineering, and analytics to a fast-growth company

Extra credit (but by no means required!):

  • Experience deploying an Agile Data Warehouse methodology (such as BEAM✲)
  • Experience working with dimensional or star schema models as an analyst
  • Exposure to ELT workflows in dbt on a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, Redshift, and BigQuery
  • Management experience
  • Practical knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of different BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Sisense, and so on)
  • Any teaching experience
