Thank you for the notes, Todd.

I wonder: what if we use Kerberos and ssl with Impala?

I followed the steps from both articles (about Kerberos and ssl) but what I get (when testing connection) is:

Cannot connect: connection refused: Java::JavaSql::SQLException: Could not open client transport with JDBC Uri: jdbc:hive2://<impala-host>:21050/default;ssl=true;sslTrustStore=</path/to/trustStore.jks>;trustStorePassword=<password>;principal=impala/<fqdn>@<REALM>: null

I checked the connection with beeline (the same params: ;ssl=true;sslTrustStore=</path/to/trustStore.jks>;trustStorePassword=<password>;principal=impala/<fqdn>@<REALM>) and it works

Also, no error appears in the logs.

Sorry for the delay in responding. SSL and Kerberos is supported now that we have updated to the latest Hive drivers.

It will also be possible to use the Cloudera-provided Impala drivers with Looker soon, which has this support.
