Looker Monitoring Alerts

Has anyone set up monitoring alerts for Looker? We’re thinking that some sort of failed schedule alerting, or failed query alerting in Slack would be useful, but I’m sure this has already been thought of! If anyone has any ideas or has set something up, we would love to collaborate!

You can use the activity explores from admin to get query errors, for example, this URL gives all recent errors with their source, error message and some other metadata:

https://{YOURLOOKERDOMAIN}.looker.com/explore/system__activity/history?fields=history.created_time,query.link,history.source,history.message,query.model,query.view,user.id&f[history.status]=error&sorts=history.created_time+desc&limit=500&column_limit=50&vis=%7B%22type%22%3A%22table%22%2C%22series_types%22%3A%7B%7D%7D&filter_config=%7B%22history.status%22%3A%5B%7B%22type%22%3A%22%3D%22%2C%22values%22%3A%5B%7B%22constant%22%3A%22error%22%7D%2C%7B%7D%5D%2C%22id%22%3A3%2C%22error%22%3Afalse%7D%5D%7D&dynamic_fields=%5B%5D&origin=share-expanded

For scheduling, you have two options.

One is the new alerts feature. For this you’ll need to save it to a dashboard and add a numeric value.

The other one is to save it as a Look and schedule it. In the scheduling options, select Slack as target and open up the advanced settings to only send if there are results.

You can easily customise the data, looks, schedule frequency etc

Hope this helps!
