I've been experimenting with the "Admin --> General --> Labs --> Experimental --> Instant Dashboards" feature.
Realizing that "Experimental features are not fully developed and may be significantly changed or completely removed in future releases."
I'd still like to better understand how they currently work, as they may at least temporarily solve some current problems we have with very long running queries used to render some of our dashboards
The only information I have been able to find is in What are “Instant Dashboards”?. That:
"Instant Dashboards labs feature will display the last ran dashboard results while the new one is running."
I'm currently seeing situations where even with Instant Dashboards turned on, first queries run at the start of a day do not seem to use any cache.
My specific questions:
- For what time period do Instant Dashboards cache the last run query? In my testing, it seems to expire overnight. i.e. the first query the next day seems to need to rerun
- Do any of the following impact the behavior of Instant Dashboards (or are Instant Dashboard completely independent?)
i.e. is the Instant Dashboard cache flushed at "persist_for" timeout?
- does "prefetching" impact Instant Dashboards?.
i.e. if I run a programmatic prefetch will the Instant Dashboard detect the existing cache?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
