HBO Max launches in May 2020.

What’s the role?
As a Sr. Data Analyst your role will be to build and maintain the data visualizations and provide support in advancing the capabilities to synthesize huge volumes of complex big data, and refine that raw data into actionable visual insights meaningful and important to business.

Based on the analytical questions to explore, you will design and build the semantic layer to best support self-service BI to users. You will also work with business experts to generate key metrics and make them available in the Data Visualization tool (our primary tool is Looker).

The Daily

  • Looker Reporting Visualizations
    • Translate business expert analysis use cases into reporting requirements
    • Build visually stunning reporting dashboards in Looker to satisfy our data hungry stakeholders
    • Rapidly deliver on concepts through prototypes that can be presented for feedback
    • Create and maintain core internal dashboards that are cross departmental
    • Act as a visualization subject matter expert providing support to team members
  • Ad Hoc Analysis
    • Delve deeper into data sets for insights around specific topics requested by leadership
    • Explore questions from various angles and collaborate with your teammates to build compelling presentations
  • Semantic Layer and Data Pipeline Development
    • Assist in the last mile of data delivery by contributing towards the design and build of aggregated datasets using ETL principles that underlay visualizations
    • Collaborate closely with data engineers to ensure a high level of data quality
    • Participate in the creation and support of BI development standards and best practices.

The Essentials

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineer, Mathematics or similar required (master degree is a plus)
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience:
    • Delivering business intelligence and data visualization dashboard solutions
    • Looker or Tableau data visualization design and development
    • Analyzing, compiling, cleansing, interpreting, joining and staging data
  • Candidate should be a SQL expert (since Looker is also very dependent on SQL) and know how to deal with big data. Must be able to optimize queries and join datasets efficiently
  • For Looker, must be able to configure the entire pipeline - create Models/Views/Explores (knowing how to use parameters and persistent derived tables is a plus)
  • Familiarity with Snowflake is a plus
  • Proven ability to produce high quality data visualizations in a fast-paced environment.
  • An expert who can tell a story with data, as well as visualize it with Looker.
  • Strong background in data relationships, modeling, semantic layer and mining.
  • Experience working with complex and large volumes of data.
  • Ability to filter the signal from the noise in datasets.
  • Willingness and ability to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to teach and train effectively.
  • The ideal candidate loves data and pays close attention to details.
  • Cares about the quality of the input data as well as how the processed data is ultimately interpreted and used.
  • Excited to work in the entertainment industry and, in particular, at a premiere video streaming service.
